Article I. Name

The name of this society is the Brunel Persian Society (BPS).

Article II. Character of BPS

The objective of the Brunel Persian Society is to further a greater sense of Persian culture among Iranians studying at Brunel. To preserve, promote and encourage positive attributes of Persian culture and to enhance intercultural dialogue between other nationalities and Persians currently studying at Brunel.

Article III. Objectives & Activities (See also Article VII)

The Objectives of the BPS
1) Discussion of information and knowledge about issues of student life of the members
2) Promotion of the Persian civilization and culture in the fields of the Brunel University, through strengthened ties with the academic departments at the Brunel University and holding joint events. BPS will celebrate cultural occasions in an effort to raise cultural awareness among its constituencies.
The Activities of the BPS
1) Monthly meetings of the members for the discussion of issues dealing with the student life in Brunel. The objective is to give the opportunity to its members to express their thoughts about several issues of their student life. At the same time there is an effort to develop strong communicative bonds between the members.
2) Cultural activities on Iran to be held in Brunel such as
-Organizing lectures series by academics, exhibitions, film projections, music concerts, dance performances.
-Sponsoring of cultural events.
3) General social events.

Article IV. Founder & Executive Committee

i) Founders
Society Founders: Behnam, Farzaneh, Sara

ii) Executive Committee (Academic Year 2003-2004):
Behnam Abolahrar (President), Elahe Kani (Vice President), Ida Behnia (Social Director), Ahmad Kafaei and Pegah Ranjbar (Sports Organizers), Hemad Yasaei (Webmaster), Omid Rezaei (Treasurer).
iii) Duties
President:
- Representation of the Society in every official event in the SU and in the meetings with the members of the BPS.
- Supervision of the other members of the Executive Committee
- Public relations.
- Cooperation with other members for several issues (e.g. finances, website, e-mail list etc)
Vice President:
- The correspondence of the Society.
- The occasional replacement of the President in SU
- SU
Treasurer:
- The finances of the society.
i) to keep up-to-date Society accounts
ii) to budget for Society events
iii) to apply for grants that are offered by SU
Advisory Members:
- The participation in the councils of the committee,
- Contribution to the monthly meetings of the members.
- Occasional urgent tasks.

Article V. Membership

The membership in the BPS is divided in:
i) Honorary Membership:
- Individual members recognized for their active and exceptional participation in the BPS.
- Individuals with long-term presence and research contribution in the field of Iranian civilization and culture.
ii) Individual Membership:
- Every Brunel University student/Non-Brunel Students (fully matriculated).
- Members of the academic community of SU
- Anyone interested in the Iranian civilization and culture


Article VI. Elections

Positions and Individuals:
- The elections for the four (4) positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Webmaster) of the Executive Committee are held annually.
- Only active members who have been the member of BPS for at least 2 years have the right to be candidates for President’s position.
- All members have the right to be candidates including the members of the executive committee.
- All members have the right to vote.

Candidateship:
- Every candidate must submit a brief evidence of his/her Identity (ID), and declare the position his/her pursues.
- The details must be given to the Executive committee which is obliged to examine them.
- Incomplete details will not be considered.
Time:
- The elections takes place at a particular date and time announced by the Committee one (1) week earlier.
- The Nominees are examined by the Committee and the names of these candidates are announced prior to elections time. The Committee distributes the names of the candidates through the BPS emailing list to the members for the electoral process.
- The candidates for the positions of the Committee must submit their details no later than the date declared before the elections (The Submission Deadline is announced by the Committee).
Special Remarks:
- In case there are no candidates for the elections, the Committee remains as it is and it is obliged to hold new elections six (6) months later.
- In case the number of the candidates is less than the number of the positions of the Committee, then the elections are held normally and the candidate(s) will be considered for the positions they applied for, only if they are voted by the members of the society. In case they are not voted, the Committee will hold new election in a six months' time.
- In case there is no candidate for one of the positions of the Committee, then the other members of the new committee must hold new elections for the position after some time that they are going to choose.
- After three months a confident vote will take place deciding the newly elected committee’s future position. A 65 percent majority is required for reelection.
- The Executive Committee is the supervisor of the elections.

Article VII. Communication

The means of communication between the members of the BPS consist of the following sectors:
I) Website
http://www.brunelpersians.co.uk
The online presence of the BPS is necessary for the accomplishment of its objectives mentioned above (See Article III). The website includes links about the objectives and activities of the society, its address, its officers, members, pictures from the BPS activities.
II) Forum - Emailing List
The aim of the BPS e-list is to strengthen the exchange of information between the members about issues of everyday student life (accommodation, matriculation, studies, schedule, cultural news, academic news). Political messages are prohibited.


Article VIII. Resolutions

All the members of the BPS have the right to refer resolutions to the Executive Committee who is obliged to submit them for voting after its recommendation.
The members can vote on other general matters by 'ordinary resolution', i.e., a simple majority vote.


Article IX. Amendments

Amendments to the constitution will be proposed by the Executive Committee and adopted by a 2/3 of the members in extra voting.
